BSG Bokashi Bran (Local, Upcycled)
What is Bokashi Composting ?
The Bokashi method, developed by Dr. Teruo Higa in Japan in the 1980s, means “fermented organic matter.” Unlike traditional composting, Bokashi uses anaerobic fermentation with beneficial microbes such as lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, and photosynthetic bacteria to break down food waste, manures, and plant matter in a sealed, oxygen-free environment.
This process creates nutrient-rich compost in a fraction of the time of regular piles, while also allowing difficult scraps like meats, dairy, and oils to be composted safely. It reduces pathogens, preserves beneficial organisms, and keeps nutrients from being lost to the air.
Beyond composting, Bokashi bran and EM solutions can reduce odors, suppress disease, restore soil and water health, and boost plant vitality. With its speed, versatility, and ecological benefits, Bokashi is a game changer for sustainable waste management.
Uses & Benefits of Bokashi Bran
- Improved water retention is soils
- Improved nutrient cycling is soils
- Disease and pathogen suppression in soils and animal yards
- Compost accelerator and activator
- Bioremediation and neutralization of polluted water
- Odor neutralization from kitty litter, to composting toilets and animal yards
- Unique ability to break down and compost difficult food items such as dairy and meats (a game changer as far as food waste goes)
To minimize our footprint and be as ecological as possible, we ferment and dry this Bokashi Bran with the power of the High Desert sun rather than a facility, making our manufacturing process virtually carbon neutral, while still delivering a superior product.
