We are very excited to announce the launch of our new locally crafted, upcycled Brewer’s Spent Grain (BSG) Bokashi Bran!

At last, there is a local, economical source for Bokashi Bran to serve our Central Oregon community and beyond. We recognized the many important potential benefits this amazing product has to offer our region including regenerating soils, waste management, water treatment/remediation and many other agricultural uses and decided to make it a reality!

We start by sourcing fresh Brewer Spent Grain (BSG) from the awesome local brewery ‘Crux Fermentation Project’ right here in Bend. We then inoculate and ferment this spent grain with a consortium of beneficial and effective microorganisms to deliver a powerful, concentrated biological product known as Bokashi Bran. Once dried and packaged this Bran can be shelf stable for over a year if stored properly. Bokashi Bran has numerous useful functions from farming to waste management including:

*Disease and pathogen suppression in soils and animal yards

*Compost accelerator and activator

*Bioremediation and neutralization of polluted water

* Odor neutralization from kitty litter, to composting toilets and animal yards

What is Bokashi Composting ?

The Bokashi method, developed by Dr. Teruo Higa in Japan in the 1980s, means “fermented organic matter.” Unlike traditional composting, Bokashi uses anaerobic fermentation with beneficial microbes such as lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, and photosynthetic bacteria to break down food waste, manures, and plant matter in a sealed, oxygen-free environment.

This process creates nutrient-rich compost in a fraction of the time of regular piles, while also allowing difficult scraps like meats, dairy, and oils to be composted safely. It reduces pathogens, preserves beneficial organisms, and keeps nutrients from being lost to the air.

To minimize our footprint and be as ecological as possible, we ferment and dry this Bokashi Bran with the power of the High Desert sun rather than a facility, making our manufacturing process virtually carbon neutral, while still delivering a superior product.

We are currently offering this product by the gallon in small amounts or bulk for pick up or delivery.

Free deliveries within Central Oregon!

We can offer temporary paper packaging for delivery or pick up if needed, however we strongly encourage the use of your own container to properly store the Bran if possible. Buckets, bags, totes all work. paper is not suitable for long term storage.
